Months 7 and 8

Let's take a little ride in our time machines, shall we?! We will travel WAAAYY back to Christmas time and look at what the Smith girls have been up to since then!

We went to our family get together at my Great Uncle's farm in East TN. Mikey and I had not been in several years and the girls had never been. I have many great memories of Christmas gatherings here, running wild with my cousins. I was happy that the girls got to meet some family that we don't see that often. Various cousins scooped them up when we walked in the door and we barely saw the girls again for the rest of the day!

On Christmas Eve, Grandma and Grandaddy, Leslie, Shannon and Paul came over for our traditional junk food fest.
We snagged this picture after Santa set out his gifts.

On Christmas Day we hung out around the house and played with our stuff and watched Frozen.

One of Charlie's gifts was a seat for the bathtub, so she can bathe with big sister but not slip and slide all over the place.

The girls love to take baths together and they both sit and kick their legs at the same times to splash each other.
The giggles are contagious!

Emily hasn't taken a nap anywhere except for her bed since I couldn't tell you when, but one day we were watching a movie in my room and she fell asleep snuggled up on me.
I would not have moved from that spot for anything!

Two of Emily's favorite things are gloves - also known as "clappers" - and glasses.
If she sees someone with glasses on, either in person or on TV, she will always point it out.
When we are riding in the car, she loves to put her sunglasses on and say "you can't get me, sun".

Charlie is still waking up at the crack of dawn (actually before the crack of dawn if we are being technical).
She does sleep through the night, going to bed about 7:00 or 7:30, and getting up around 5:00. Most mornings, especially weekends, we feed her and then we all go back to sleep in our bed for another hour or so until Emily wakes up.

Charlie wakes up smiling!

Emily hates to have her hair messed with and she really hates ponytails. I got her to briefly consent to this one, because I called it a "pigtail" but it still didn't last long.

Charlie at her seven month photo shoot!

We always try to get a shot of the girls together each month, but sometimes Emily is not interested.

We recently went to Kentucky for cousin Ryah's 8th birthday party. They had a bunch of inflatable slides and Emily had so much fun climbing up them all by herself and then sliding down!
She looked so little going up those ladders alone, and sometimes bigger kids would bump her because she was going slow. But she didn't care! She is so strong minded when she wants something!

Charlie is developing a tag obsession like her sister!

We had one morning of snow in January so we bundled up and went out for a while.
It wasn't really enough to sled or make snowballs, but we walked all around the yard and stomped in it alot.

Still no teeth yet for Charlie. She is just getting the hang of eating baby foods. When we first started offering, she was not at all interested but lately she will eat about half a container of pureed fruits or veggies before she turns away.
She likes puffs and is very good at picking them up and putting them in her mouth.
She is still eating formula like a champ though!

We spend alot of time hanging out in our room all together.
Charlie is not crawling yet, but she is rolling all around and getting on all fours to rock back and forth.
It is only a matter of time until she is on the move!

Both girls have had colds pretty much all winter - sometimes they are sick at the same time, sometimes they take turns.
Illness forced us to reschedule Charlie's six month photos until she was almost 8 months old, but we finally got them done and they are amazing!
Emily wore this skirt and tights, and when she got dressed that morning she kept saying "I so fancy".
Guess I should dress her up more often!

For Valentines week, I dressed the girls in heart themed outfits, and I tried to match them when I could.

One of our many doctor visits recently.
Charlie loved the exam table paper!

Eight month photo shoot!

We said that she was trying to hide her age already.

And then she ate the sticker....

Already stealing my shoes!

This is technically Emily's car, but we put Charlie in it for a spin.
Emily did not like that one bit.
From now on, Charlie can only have car rides while Emily is napping!

Daddy and Emily had a date night to go see Disney Junior live.
She got a popcorn in this bag, and I think that was her favorite part of the night!

Another nap with Charlie!

Last week we were iced in at home all week, and Daddy was out of town for a few days.
I basically pulled out every toy in the house trying to keep us all entertained.

When we finally escaped (and Daddy came home!) we went to mall and Emily had her first carousel ride.

Life is so good right now!
Emily is just hilarious - every day she says something or does something to crack us up.
We sort of tried potty training last week, since we were stuck at home anyway. She liked wearing the big girl pants, and she likes going to sit on the potty, but she doesn't like to actually "go" in the potty.
One day she held it in for hours and then while we were cleaning up after dinner, she came running up and said "Hey, look at that mess over there!".

Some of her funniest sayings right now, so I don't forget:
- when she asks you to do something "Come on, Mommy"
- when you do something for her "Thank you, you are so sweet to me"
- when something is cold or when we are talking about going outside "It's cold and icy toooooo"
- when she hands you something "that's for you, pal"
- she has a hat with little ears on top and she calls it her "baa baa black sheep hat"
- if you ask her "Are you sweet / nice / funny, etc ?" she says "No, I Emily!"

She loves to sing and say her alphabet and count - she can count up in to the teens now.
She knows all her colors and shapes and she loves to sort things. She is actually a little OCD about it - she sorts her veggie chips by color.

Charlie continues to be the sweetest, happiest baby ever. Even when she was pouring buckets of snot and coughing her head off, she was smiling!
She adores her big sister and just wants to be watching her, or sitting by her or touching her at all times.
She isn't crawling but she still gets where she wants to go by lunging or rolling.
She is about 19 pounds and wear 9 to 12 month clothing.
She is still a total chatterbox and is always babbling and screaming and giggling. She is an absolute joy to be around!
It is hard to believe that she will be mobile soon, and then talking and all the other things that happen so fast at this point.
I can't wait!
