Fall 2015

Unlike my dear Charlie (pictured below) I have decided to come out from behind the couch, so to speak, and update the old blog.

I hope you guys have stuck around, like Emily's stickers, and are still here to read my ramblings!

As has become her tradition, Charlie got sick with fall allergies and ended up having to have breathing treatments every 4 hours for a while. But because she is Charlie, aka the sweetest baby on earth, she handled it like a champ and looked good doing it!

We kicked off our Fall by heading to a local pumpkin patch.
It was rainy and cold that day, but we still had fun!

Somehow we didn't notice that Emily's pumpkin had a huge worm in it until we got home. She was emotionally attached by that point so we dug the worm out, and then filled the hole with silicone. Parents of the year!

Emily has been doing great with potty training and could make it all night without a diaper, even though she almost always requests that we put one on her anyway.
However, when she does need to go in the night, she always wants to get in bed with us afterward.
Personally, I love having her there, but for some strange reason, Mikey doesn't.

Lately we have been giving the girls showers together at night, instead of baths.
They both love it and we don't have to wrestle, nag and coerce them in there, so it works for us!

And our shower door has never been cleaner!

It is no wonder that we eat such horrible meals considering the fact that all of this is going on while I try to cook every night!

Every once in a while they will cuddle for a minute.
And when they do, I am always ready to take a picture!

Emily loves to paint, and one day she let me pull her hair up in a bun "like mommy's".
I couldn't get over how much older it made her look!

Charlie and Emily's classes go outside at about the same time each day - Emily on the playground, and Charlie on the front porch of her building which overlooks the playground.
All the kids in Emily's class adore Charlie and always want to hug her and follow her around when they see her. The teacher said some days Emily goes over to visit her sister and some days she ignores her.
Who could ignore a face like this!?

This is not only a shot of a precious angel sleeping on me, it also might be one of the last photos of that nasty tag on her blanket.
We have sewed it back on once now, and it is down to its last threads again.
I am dreading the day that it finally falls off!

We went to Boo at the Zoo for the first time this year.

My cousin made the absolute cutest costume ever for her little girl, Claudia.

Emily said she wanted her picture made with Tink, but when it was our turn she changed her  mind.

My girls had light up pink cowgirl hats to go with their dresses, but of course they wouldn't wear them.

Another moment of indecision for Em - she desperately wanted to go in the bounce house, but when we would get to the door and she would see the other big kids, and when she found out I couldn't go with her, she didn't want to go.
Then when we walked away, she cried that she wanted to go so we got back in line...and so on and so forth.

Charlie just chilled and watched the chaos.

Me and my cousin Abby - more like another sister than a cousin, really.

One rainy Saturday we took an exciting outing to the pet store to see the animals.
Sometimes we have to get creative with our outings!

Charlie's legs look a million miles long here!

I got this pic from another of her day care teachers.
Apparently she is quite the popular girl - one day last week when I dropped her off, two little boys came running up to give her hugs and kisses.

Finally finally, Halloween week arrived!

Weeks ago Emily started saying that she wanted to be a "scary ghost" for Halloween.
I kept asking and kept asking before I bought something because I just knew she would change her mind, but the answer was always the same.

And she did it!
She even let me paint her face!
I did a horrible job of it, but let's not hold that against her.

The costume was just a cape with a hood, but it turned out perfect! It was really lightweight so it billowed out behind her when she walked and made her look like she was floating.

Charlie was a pumpkin, because it was cute and because all little kids need to be a pumpkin at some point in their lives.

They both had a blast trick or treating!
We went to my parent's condo and walked up and down with an entourage - 4 kids and 12 grownups!
Charlie thought she was so big and walked and carried her own treat bag the entire way.
By the end it was heavy and she was so tired that she was dragging it, but she kept on going.

These two make my heart so happy!

Happy Birthday Charlie!!!

Our sweet Charlie girl turned 1 on June 10th!
I kept wanting to double check all the calendars because it just doesn't seem like it could have possibly been a year already!

On the day of her actual birthday, we took donuts to her class.
I think they liked them!

That night we went out to dinner - again, I think she liked it!

Her birthday party had a Hawaiian luau theme.
We were so busy rushing around the day of the party that I didn't get very many photos unfortunately.
We had about 40 people at our house on a hot summer day, and our AC went out!
Luckily, they sent someone to fix it quickly.
Charlie had lots of friends and family come celebrate with her, and everyone had a great time swimming and playing.

The birthday girl took a little mid party nap, and when she woke up we let her have a go at her cupcake.
She wasn't really sure what to think about it but she did her best to smear icing all over the place!

It was a truly great day and we were so thankful for everyone who came to celebrate and who  brought Charlie gifts.

This past year has been challenging in many ways, with two small kids so close together and working full time. People have asked us how we do it, and there really isn't an answer to that - we don't have time to think about it, we just do it!
We call it survival mode.
But I can say without a doubt that I would not change one single thing about our lives right now.
Charlie has been the perfect addition to our family and I can't imagine life without her in it.
Her birthday was bitter sweet for me as a mom, because she is the last baby in our family, and I know how fast they grow and change during their 2nd year.
I look at Emily  now and she seems so grown, and she was a baby just a minute ago!

But at the same we are looking forward to all the fun we are going to have with these girls as they grow.
It is still surreal to us that we went from no babies, to a family of four in under two years.

We thank our lucky stars for these amazing children!

Girls of summer

We have had a great summer!

The girls love to be outside and love playing in water, so we spend as much time as we can hanging out on our deck and in the yard.
We have still not gotten the maximum use out of our pool because it is too hard for either of us to take both girls swimming by ourselves, and it seems like we always have so much going on.
But Emily definitely loves the pool and I am sure Charlie will too when she gets bigger, so we are very excited for summers to come!

They both love to splash around in the water table.

On one of our Kentucky trips, Emily had a blast swimming with the big girls.
She was holding hands and jumping off the sides with them over and over again.

And Charlie discovered the joy of cheetos!

One day Emily insisted on wearing this hat to daycare.
One of her teachers took her outside for an impromptu photo shoot.
Her legs look so long!

This is my favorite shirt so I had to get some pics of my other little model.
She was skeptical at first....

Emily tried to recapture her youth in the bouncy seat.

Charlie made sure that the living room never got too clean or organized.
Thanks baby girl!

And, after watching Emily fall in love with other kids' tricycles everywhere we went, we got her one of her very own.
She was So excited, clapping her hands as Mikey put it together and saying "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!".
And then she sat on it, and couldn't reach the pedals.

Oops.

Luckily we found a smaller one for her to ride until she grows into this one.
